When it comes to food, the Dominican Republic is best known for its flavorful stews. Dominican-style pork chops are rich and juicy and offer delicious yet complex flavors that you will surely enjoy. Cooking in a cast iron skillet gives this dish so much flavor.
Ingredient breakdown
- Boneless pork chop: The boneless pork chop is the key ingredient in Dominican-Style Pork Chops. When choosing a boneless pork chop, look for one that is well-marbled and has good fat content. The fat will help keep the meat moist during cooking and add flavor.
- Lime juice: The lime juice helps tenderize the meat and adds a fresh, tart flavor that pairs well with the spices in the dish.
- Salt: Season with salt to add flavor.
- Oregano: Oregano adds a strong, pungent flavor and aroma to the dish.
- Garlic not only adds flavor but also helps tenderize the meat.
- Olive oil: adding olive oil can help to create a more flavorful and moist dish.
- Red Bell Pepper: The peppers add flavor and color to the dish, making it a favorite among Dominican cooks.
- Yellow Bell Pepper: yellow bell pepper provides a sweetness that helps to balance out the savory flavors of the dish. It also adds a pop of color to an otherwise brownish-colored dish.
- Onion: The onion adds flavor and tenderness to the meat. It is also used to make a sauce for pork chops.
- Green Olives: The olives add a salty, briny flavor that pairs perfectly with the other seasonings in the dish.
- Tomato sauce: The acidity of the tomato sauce helps balance out the richness of the pork chops while also adding sweetness to the dish.
Tips to Remember
Here are a few tips to remember while making this dish:
- Be sure to trim the fat off of the pork chops before cooking them. This will help to prevent them from drying out during the cooking process.
- Season the pork chops generously with salt and pepper before cooking. This will give them great flavor and help to keep them moist.
- When frying the pork chops, be sure to use hot oil so that they cook evenly on both sides.
- Once the pork chops are cooked, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
What to serve Dominican-Style Pork Chops with?
- Maple-Bacon Brussels Sprouts: Maple-bacon Brussels sprouts go deliciously well with Dominican-style pork chops. The natural sweetness of the maple syrup complements the savory spices in the pork chop recipe perfectly.
- Cauliflower Gratin: Cauliflower gratin can be a good side dish for Dominican-style pork chops because it is savory and cheesy. The cauliflower gratin can help balance the pork chops’ spiciness.
- Baked Potatoes: baked potatoes are the perfect side dish for Dominican-style pork chops. The savory flavors of the pork chops pair perfectly with the creamy potatoes, and the dish is hearty enough to satisfy any appetite.
- Roasted Vegetables: The roasted vegetables are the perfect side to the pork chops.
